If you would like to pick up your shirt at the house any other time, please email me and we'll arrange for that. Membership cards and caps will be mailed out to those that can't make a practice, but shirts will have to be picked up. We are currently designing a new team shirt that is "school" friendly. For those of you that would like to purchase another one, they will be $15. If you requested a large shirt, we will get them in and to you as soon as possible, we are currently out of that size.
Richardson Bike Mart Group Riding Etiquette Classes
Wednesday 3/3 6:00p – 7:00p. FREE Answers to your group road riding questions. At the Richardson location: 1451 W. Campbell Rd. 972-231-3993. Sign up online for the RBM Group Riding Etiquette Class.
Beginner Pool Swim Clinic & Underwater Filming
Monday 3/8 5:30p – 9:30p. The 2-hour swim workshop is a "crash course" in freestyle swimming efficiency for competitive, recreational, and fitness swimmers and triathletes. This is the quickest, most effective way to learn the essential skills and proper technique of swimming. Open to participants with no prior formal swim training or intermediate students wanting to brush up on their skills.
- Individualized stroke instruction
- Enhanced technique and coordination
- Improved balance, alignment, rotation and the reduction of drag
- Teaching of drills to help common problems
- Instruction on swimming specifically for triathlons
Underwater videotaping (1-hour in-water session and 2-hour classroom session) allows a swimmer to see areas where stroke revisions might improve efficiency and performance. This is an excellent opportunity to better understand each swimmer's technique. Texas Triple Threat will explain why the participants are not swimming as well as they would like or as well as they could be. The staff will teach the athletes how to be their own best coach and how to build an effective and enjoyable training program that makes the best use of what they learned at the clinic. Total Cost - $125 Clinic ONLY (no videotaping) - $45.
Register online for the Beginner Pool Swim Clinic & Underwater Filming.
Lake DeGray Tri Training Camp
Friday 3/26/2010 – Sunday 3/28/2010. Come join us for a weekend full of fun and intense training for all levels. This year will be even bigger and better. We will take up to 40 people and we already have registrations. Be sure to get your spot.
New Orleans 70.3
Friday 4/16/2010 – Tuesday 4/20/2010. A block of rooms has been arranged for us by Golden Adventures at the W Hotel for $159 a night. The information to reserve is available upon request. There are also some good deals on airfare right now (American $154 and Southwest $144 roundtrip Friday 16 - Tuesday 20). We will be driving and taking a trailer to haul some bikes to the race. If you would like to reserve a spot, speak now or forever hold your peace. We will be leaving on Thursday (possibly early Friday morning) and returning on Tuesday. All bikes will need to be turned over to us by Wednesday April 14th.
Beginner Tri Training Programs
4/26/2010 & 8/9/2010. If you have friends who are scared or intimidated about getting into the sport of triathlon, this is something for them. We will be hosting two beginner tri training programs this year. One will start in April to train for the Metroplex Sprint Triathlon in June and one will start in August to train for the US Open Sprint Triathlon in October. It is the most comprehensive program you will find with 5 to 6 clinics, a general training schedule, team membership, and coaching advice. It's a great way to get motivated to do their first race. More details.
Triple Threat Photo Gallery
Our new photo gallery is completely interactive and open for team use. We would like to invite you to post any of your triathlon, running, cycling, swimming, adventure race, fun, photos up to our website. Obviously, all photos are subject to our approval, but please get on there and post away. Read some helpful instructions for how to upload pictures.
Vo2 and RMR Testing
One of the best things you can do for yourself as you start out your tri training season is to get a Vo2 test done. We require it for all of our personal clients because it gives us a road map of how to train them to obtain their goals. It is the best chance for you to stay uninjured, get faster, and lose weight. What's keeping you from scheduling? Especially for you long distance athletes, knowing your training zones is key to figuring out your nutrition and knowing when you can and can't push it. It's $100 per discipline and can be scheduled pretty much any day of the week, any time. Find out how you're made up and what you should be doing to achieve your goals this year.
Food Drive 2010
A few times a year we do something to give back to our community. Sometimes, it's just the triathlon community and sometimes it's the community we all train in. Texas Triple Threat would like to do a food drive to help out our local food pantries during this very cold winter. Three things we all need to survive...food, water, and shelter. Let's help out in one of those areas. We'll accept food until the end of February and it will be donated through our church, Bent Tree Bible Fellowship, to the local food pantries.
Team Races for 2010
Every year we pick races that we like to take big groups to. For 2010, we have picked six races that you may want to plan into your season. At each race we will have a designated gathering area to have some beverages and relax after the race. We will also try to arrange for discounts into each of the races. More info is on our Team Races webpage.
- April – New Orleans 70.3 ($25 discount confirmed)
- May – Texas Man Triathlon
- June – Metroplex Sprint Triathlon (Saturday Race)
- July – Off Road Triathlon
- August – Ironman Louisville (no discount)
- October – US Open Triathlon
Forum
If you have not received an invitation to join the team forum, please send an email to ttt_website@texastriplethreat.com. This is the place to post items to sell, share race reports, ask general questions, look for training partners, etc. We want to make sure you are included in the action. Plus, we want to keep it from becoming Ken's Corner. :-) Lots of good questions, answers, and banter going on here.
All work-out cancellations and updates will now be posted through our twitter page. You can register your email address or phone to receive the messages. This is the best option we have to be able to alert everyone about the pool being closed or other work-out changes. I know not everyone checks their email in the mornings so this gives you the option to get a text message instead. All daily workout updates will now be posted here instead of an email being sent out. We are also on Facebook. Come join us!
Sponsor Appreciation
Soon we will be creating a database application on the website where you will be able to input your numbers of funds you spend at our sponsors. We like to support them in any way we can and this is something we believe they are interested in. For now, if you would let us know about any money spent at Richardson Bike Mart, Run On, Luke's Locker, REI, or any other possible vendor you would like to tell us about, please send an email to billing@texastriplethreat.com. Please put “Sponsor Appreciation” in the subject line. We promise we won't tell your spouses.
Team Member Spotlight
Each update we would like to focus on one of our members who we feel contributes to the team in many ways. We want you to get to know others by more than just the type of bike they ride or which lane they swim in. Please allow us to introduce to you...
Kevin Anderle
Kevin never hesitates to help unload or be there when the coaches can't. We don't have to ask twice, sometimes, not at all. We have seen him introduce himself to strangers many times and make the new people feel welcome. And most of all, he lets us pick on him and use him as an example in both good and bad ways. We believe Triple Threat is a better team because of him.
- How long have you been a member of Texas Triple Threat?
- Almost 2 years (the same as my triathlon career).
- What is one tidbit you want everyone to know about you?
- I came to Texas to go to school at SMU from Southern California. After graduating BSEE/Bio Med Engineering, I liked the city so much I've stayed ever since. I'm an Applications Field Engineering Manager for a Semiconductor Manufacturer with a large team of engineers that span the central United States. I've traveled around the world both for pleasure and business.....I've had more than my share of long runs getting lost while training on travel. I have two boys: Gage and Greyson who are both athletes. Gage is getting ready to go to college and hoping to earn a spot as a place kicker and Greyson is a power forward sophomore in high school. I'm single and live in Addison.
- Tell us something about your hometown?
- I grew up in Orange County when it really was all orange groves. As kids we used to ride our bikes through the orange groves and have orange fights. The farmers would get mad at us and come after us with salt shot loaded in shotgun shells. Guess that is where my speed comes from..... running away from the farmers.
- If you could go anywhere in the world, or universe, where would it be and why?
- I've traveled throughout the world and have seen some amazing places. Southern Bavaria has incredible scenery and architecture. Beijing is an amazing mix of culture and history. But Catalina is my favorite place right here in the United States. It's by far the most relaxing and really uniquely beautiful places . Motoring across the channel from Long Beach it seems like you're being transported to a place much further than the 30 miles it takes to get there. Once there you moor your boat among other like minded friendly boaters and enjoy. You can swim in the ocean with kelp moving under you and fish everywhere. The water is always 68 degrees and crystal clear. The bars/restaurants on shore are all small European like dives filled with people that want to make new friends. It's an amazing place.
- Give one word that describes you? why that word?
- Persistent. I'm not blessed with great DNA but I make up for my lack of natural talent by never giving up.
- If you had six months with no obligations and all the money you needed, what would you do with the time?
- The first 72 days I'd do the bicycle ride from San Francisco to Boston. Then from there I'd get a couple friends and my boys and fly directly from Boston to Europe for a transcontinental motorcycle trip for the remaining time. Traveling all the back roads and seeing all the small towns. Only sleeping in bed and breakfasts, homes of people we met or camping the whole way! Rain or shine we'd move from one end of the continent to the other!
- What would you say you bring to Team Triple Threat?
- Perspective. I laugh easily at myself and I enjoy helping others. I'm very competitive both meeting my goals and racing. That being said my training/racing I squeeze in around more important things in my life rather than squeezing in my life around training/racing.
Please don't hesitate to contact any of the coaches with questions you might have. Brandon, Brett, Sean, Todd, Tommy and myself are all here for you. So, stay warm and do the best you can to suck it up and get your training in. Remember, we are all suffering together. Now, find someone to go with you so you don't skip out on that next bike ride. Happy Training! :-)
